Elizabeth Salois (née Mulvey)

14 novembre 2022

It’s with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our one and only mom, wife, Nana, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Elizabeth (Liz) Salois. God called her sooner than expected, surrounded by her family on November 14th, at the age of 74, after a short but incredibly courageous battle with brain cancer. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Mulvey and the late Elaine Sloan (born Grace) and the stepdaughter of the late Austin Sloan. She was the beloved wife of 50 years to Gérard (Gerry) Salois and a very cherished mother to Stephen, Julie and Natalie (Frank Pelletier).  She was the adored Nana to her grand-babies, Mia, Jillian and Abigail. She was the loving sister of Grace Mulvey, Jean Paré (Ron), Gerry Sloan, Iona Sloan, and André Salois. Predeceased by her brothers Jimmy and Charlie Mulvey and her step-sisters Lorna Ferrigan and Barbara Desjardins.  She is also survived by her aunt Jane Hearty (née Grace) and her children Peter and Tracy, her Aunt Ann Grace, her niece Michelle Paré, her nephew Mark Paré, her goddaughter Lana-Marie Desjardins, her extended families: the Hearty’s, the McCrank’s, the McGuire’s, the Sloan’s, the Grace’sthe LaRoche’s and the Danis, as well as many other family and friends.

Liz devoted her life to her family.  Taking on the lifelong decision to care for her physically disabled and mentally challenged son, she embraced the path that she was given and was the shining example of what a truly good person should be. She was loyal and honest and her loving heart brought comfort to everyone who knew her.  She was a devout Catholic and enjoyed many years as a parishioner at St-Mark’s Catholic Church in Aylmer. She loved spending time with friends and family, hosting suppers and visiting her hometown of Vinton, Quebec. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

The family would like to thank Liz’s nurse Élodie Poirier-Gauthier, her occupational therapist, Michèle Boisvenu and her palliative doctor, Dr. Joseph Youssef of the CLSC, as well as the staff of the Hull and Gatineau hospitals that tended to her.

A funeral will be held to honour Liz on Thursday, November 24th at 11:00am, at St-Mark’s Church, located at 160 Principale Street, Gatineau.  The family will receive condolences as of 10:15am.  It will also be possible to view the ceremony online.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, CHEO or the St-Elizabeth’s Parish of Vinton, Quebec.
