What is a funeral concession?

A concession is a right to use a portion of land in a cemetery exclusively for burial purposes, and hence to inter coffins and urns containing remains of the deceased. The concessionary does not become the owner of the land, which remains the property of Les Jardins du Souvenir, but is commonly its lessee. Use of the concession is granted for a period of 99 years from the date that the contract is signed. The concessionary is the owner of the monument that he or she purchases, which can be installed on the concession in conformity with the by-laws in effect for Les Jardins du Souvenir. The concessionary is responsible for the burial fees for the casket or urn, which are payable in accordance with the terms and conditions established by Les Jardins du Souvenir.
